Hideaway Tie Rods

Hideaway pipe ties or tie rods are used in precast concrete products for post-tensioning reinforcement. They work by:

• Pre-tensioning: Before the concrete cures, the tie rods are stretched and anchored at both ends within the concrete element. This creates a compressive force that counteracts the tensile stress that the concrete will experience when in use.
• Hideaway design: The tie rods are embedded within the concrete element, typically inside hollow core slabs or within ducts, so they are not visible after the concrete has cured. This gives them the “hideaway” designation.

Overall, hideaway pipe ties/tie rods improve the strength and cracking resistance of precast concrete products by applying a compressive force that counteracts the natural tendency of concrete to crack under tension.
